Description: Set in 1914 at St. Mary’s House, a Catholic reformatory, the play follows four teenage girls whose lives are shaped by strict religious authority and a world that gives them little control over their own futures. When they discover the writings of birth-control activist Margaret Sanger, she becomes something like their patron saint, inspiring them to imagine lives in which their bodies and choices might truly belong to them. Funny, provocative, intimate, and ultimately heartbreaking, What Every Girl Should Know explores friendship, faith, sexuality, trauma, imagination, and the fierce bonds these young women create with one another. | |
