Description:

33 Variations is a play by Moisés Kaufman that interweaves two stories: a modern-day musicologist, Dr. Katherine Brandt, who is dying of ALS and researching Beethoven's Diabelli Variations, and Beethoven himself as he composes the 33 variations on a simple waltz. The play explores themes of obsession, legacy, art, and family, using the structure of the variations to shift between the past and present, with a live pianist playing the music throughout.
